KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was arrested Wednesday after making threats of terrorism on social media, Kalamazoo police say.

Police received a tip Tuesday about a man who had made terroristic threats toward citizens, a local church and the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, KDPS said in a release. Officers worked to confirm his identity.

KDPS says it found him on Wednesday after receiving a tip around 8:30 a.m. about a man holding a pistol in the 1100 block of S Rose Street near Wall Street.

When officers arrived on scene, he was holding a loaded, stolen pistol and also had a loaded homemade shotgun by his feet, KDPS said.

“(He) was positively identified as the same subject who had made the terroristic threats toward the Kalamazoo community the day previous as well as gave admissions to his intentions,” KDPS said.

The 37-year-old was arrested and lodged at the county jail.

KDPS said it was “thankful for those who speak up if they see or know something about criminal activity.”

Anyone with more information about the incident should call the KDPS Criminal Investigation Division at 269-337-8139. To give information anonymously, contact Kalamazoo Silent Observer at 269.343.2100 or at kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
