Many dry hours today; storms return this evening

wolmerica 2 weeks ago 1

After a very active evening Tuesday, we’re starting off with much quieter conditions Wednesday. We’ve dried out and fog has developed in the area. Some locations have seen visibility reduced to less than 1/10th of a mile. Areas near and south of the I-70 corridor have seen the greatest impact from fog. Now that the sun is up, this fog will burn off quickly.

We had numerous reports of hail, wind damage and at least one tornado from Tuesday. The National Weather Service will do a survey today. This system has pushed to our southeast and as of Wednesday morning, still continues to produce storms strong enough to issue Severe Thunderstorm Warnings.

Warm and dry before storms this evening

A new storm threat returns today but not before many dry hours. We have a lot of sunshine out there this morning and we keep the skies bright through most of the day. A warm front lifts through the state and temperatures will rise to the low and mid 80s.

Storm timing

Clouds will increase through the afternoon and by the late afternoon hours a few spotty showers in our southwestern counties will be possible. The storm threat looks more favorable starting in the early evening hours and continuing through the late evening. All severe weather threats are possible. Dynamics are most favorable for the potential of severe weather in the southern third of the state. However, all of central Indiana is at risk with the chance to see some strong to severe storms. These will not be as numerous and scattered across central Indiana as they were on Tuesday, but still be weather aware as this system comes on through.

Quieting and cooling down

The severe storm threat winds down, mainly by midnight to 1 a.m., and a few scattered showers and storms will continue into early Thursday. We turn cooler Thursday with highs in the 70s and widely scattered showers that will be off-and-on through the day. We dry out for Friday but continue to cool as highs will only rise to the mid 60s.
